Requirements

• Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit)
• Microsoft Word 2019, 2021, or Microsoft 365, installed on the same computer
• Briefs in .docx format

Installing

Installer: double-click the .msi and follow the prompts. Orion appears in the Start menu. Upgrading over an older version is automatic.

Portable: unzip anywhere and run Orion.exe. Your settings and license are stored separately, so you can replace the folder when updating.

Windows may show "Windows protected your PC" the first time. Click More info, then Run anyway. Orion is not yet code-signed; this warning is about the missing signature, not the software.

For IT departments

• The MSI installs per-machine to C:\Program Files\Orion and is suitable for deployment with Intune, SCCM, or similar. Silent install: msiexec /i Orion-v3.27.0.msi /qn.
• An office license is a single license.lic file. Place it at C:\ProgramData\Orion\license.lic on each machine and every user on that machine is licensed. Users can also install it themselves through Help → Activate License.
• Orion makes one outbound HTTPS request, to https://oriontoa.com/version.json, to check for updates. Blocking it has no other effect.
• Per-user data (settings, log, trial date) lives in %APPDATA%\Orion. Nothing is written elsewhere.

Evaluation licenses

An office that wants to test Orion with a group of attorneys can request a free evaluation license with a fixed end date. Email support@oriontoa.com with the office name and an approximate number of users.
